Counsellor

JPIIHS seeks an innovative, professionally trained counsellor (teaching qualification preferred but not essential) who has a deep interest in the wellbeing of our youth, and is a current member of NZAC, or working towards full membership. The pastoral care team is collegial, organised , and is part of a high-performing school which aims to give every student the opportunity to excel.

The successful application will:

– Help students to explore their difficulties and concerns, and to develop their capabilities and resilience;

– Fostering conditions in which a student can grow and develop as a person;

– Offering leadership and sharing expertise in promoting positive relationships;

-Promoting awareness of and respect for difference;

-Advocating for those who are disempowered,

-Providing psychoeducation to students to enhance wellbeing;

-Working with families individually and connecting them with support agencies in the community as necessary.

The applicant will be able to demonstrate in their practice a commitment to the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the bicultural foundations of Aotearoa New Zealand. Supporting the Catholic Character of the school is a condition of appointment.

Contract and remuneration will be in line with the Secondary Teachers’ collective agreement. (CA)https://www.education.govt.nz/school/people-and-employment/employment-agreements/collective-agreements/ as assessed by the Salary Assessment Unit of the Ministry of Education. Annual remuneration is dependent on service and qualifications, between $61,329.00, and $103,086.00. Hours of work will be as set out in the SCA and day by negotiation.
