Foundations of Faith: The Legacy of Our Founders
The legacy of John Paul II High School is deeply rooted in the spiritual visions of Catherine McAuley and Marcellin Champagnat. Both founders dedicated their lives to service and education, shaping the values that continue to guide the school today. Catherine McAuley, through the Sisters of Mercy, emphasized compassion and care for the poor, while Marcellin Champagnat, with the Marist Brothers, fostered a loving and inclusive approach to education, ensuring that faith and learning go hand in hand.
A Legacy of Compassion and Education
Catherine McAuley, born in Ireland, dedicated her life to helping the poor, especially women. She founded the House of Mercy to provide shelter and education for disadvantaged women and girls. In 1831, she established the Sisters of Mercy, grounded in her deep trust in God’s providence. Her prayer, the Suscipe, reflects her spiritual devotion, which continues to inspire Catholic education today.

Fostering Love and Learning
Marcellin Champagnat’s dedication to children’s education was driven by his own experiences. He established the Marist Brothers, creating a community that emphasizes love, inclusivity, and collaboration. Champagnat believed in the importance of teaching both secular subjects and faith, fostering a nurturing environment where students and teachers work together for the common good.
